You're right: fear is not always rational, and a majority of women who are raped are raped by someone they know. But living your life as a woman, with the constant fear throughout life that we deal with, is a whole separate thing from the extreme cautiousness of American culture, which certainly can be a bit ridiculous. It seems like an odd comparison to make and feels like it minimizes what we deal with as women all the time.
